Dear Sir/ Madam
As a business owner and member of the Haslemere Chamber of Commerce I would like to add my objection to the behavior of Waverley Council in seeking to continue with a project that seeks only to raise revenue for the council by abuse of process while at the same time wasting valuable taxpayers funds, including the setting aside of £20,000 to fight the community in legal costs.
The council has ignored widespread objections to the plans, and more importantly disregarded existing projects to properly plan a long term solution to the parking space crisis in the Weyhill and Haslemere area. What the area critically needs is more free or low cost parking not less, more expensive parking that benefits only the council while doing great harm to the community and making it harder for local businesses to survive.
I use the free fairground parking area frequently when shopping in Weyhill and for infrequent trips to London via Haslemere Station, I would be much less likely to shop in Weyhill if there was no free parking and pay-and-display would add great logistical challenges to traveling from Haslemere because my time in London can vary greatly, anticipating how much time I will need to be parked is impossible. I rarely use the station car park because during the week it is usually full.
I support local businesses with my trade as much as I can, the council however who should be serving the community and local businesses are focused only on what they feel is good for them, please do not approve this planning application until a proper and transparent consultation has been carried out with the local community and businesses.
