Subject: Haslemere parking proposals – Open letter

Sirs

I refer to the parking proposals currently under consideration for Haslemere.

The proposals will have a devastating effect on a town that is blooming as a result of the influx of young families, independent shops and a vibrant high street.

The proposals will undermine all of those advantages and to what purpose? Without a coherent approach to parking provision (including a multi-story station car park) the commuter issue will just move around the town and its surrounds. The restrictions will kill the town and its independent shops not to mention make it impossible for people to help at the schools without paying, go to funerals at the churches without paying…the list goes on…

The end result will be a characterless dormitory town where people park to go somewhere else.

What a legacy.

Yours faithfully
