Our house rules on publishing comments

Someone who recently submitted a comment to the www.haslemereparking.com website asked why there are so many comments awaiting approval by www.haslemereparking.com.

Let me explain. When someone sends a comment, if it is published, a confirmation is sent to the commenter by way of reply. They get to see the original comment in the format below…

Comments get sent to us in two ways. They are either submitted by registered users or they are sent as what is known as “pingbacks” when a www.haslemereparking.com URL is  embedded in a blog post either by the www.haslemereparking.com editor or by another blog.

Pingbacks are not published if they are links from one article to another in www.haslemereparking.com. They are only ever published if they link content from another website.

Here is an example of a comment that is a pingback:

If you look at the post @WaverleyBC’s discussion of Chestnut Avenue and Waitrose car parks,  you will see it has a link to the post @WaverleyBC – grave reservations over the manner in which this whole issue has been handled.

When this happens, WordPress sends a notification like the one below:

Pingback comments are not published unless another website has linked to us.

Our current status is that we have only one reader comment awaiting approval. The remaining comments awaiting approval are all pingbacks.
