Hansard. Q: What assessment, if any, has been made of using solar photovoltaics to power parking meters?

Dear Mr Curl

On 2nd February, a Hansard record shows a question was asked by Lord Kennedy of Southwark regarding parking meters.

To ask Her Majesty’s Government what assessment, if any, they have made of using solar photovoltaics to power parking meters.[HL15168]

The response he received from Earl Attlee was as follows:

The Department for Transport has carried out no research on solar-powered parking meters. This is primarily a matter for individual local authorities and the wider parking sector, though the department of course encourages innovations that save carbon. Any parking apparatus must comply with existing UK/European Standards.

Please would you kindly share any documentation you have with respect to Surrey County Council’s own research on solar-powered parking meters.

Please would you share your response with the readers of a new open and democratic forum set up by volunteers in Haslemere. You may do so by clicking on this link, Hansard. Q: What assessment, if any, has been made of using solar photovoltaics to power parking meters?

Many thanks
