Front page in this week’s Haslemere Herald: Parking plan triggers “turf wars”

MORE than 200 concerned residents packed into Haslemere Hall last Thursday afternoon to hear if a raft of controversial new parking controls would be agreed.
Responding to the strength of local feeling about introducing resident-only parking spaces and double yellow lines in more than 25 roads around the town, Surrey County Council’s Local Committee in Waverley agreed to hold a dedicated meeting to decide whether to press ahead.
The deeply divisive issue has triggered “turf wars”.
While some residents are happy to pay £50 a permit to secure a space, many others have condemned the county council for pressing ahead without tacking the core problem of the lack of affordable parking space for commuters.
