There is no date on this web blog but Haslemere station multi-storey car park is one of five local campaigns for Jeremy Hunt.
Jeremy has been in discussion with the Department of Transport over the last six months to further Network Rail’s plans for a multi storey car park at Haslemere station. There have long been calls for additional parking at the station as overspill commuter parking dominates the town’s roads causing difficulties for local residents. Network Rail have planning permission for additional spaces but are yet to secure the right sort of funding to make it a worthwhile investment. Jeremy hopes that a deal can be struck so that Haslemere can get the much needed car park it needs to help alleviate the pressure on the town’s roads.
He has been in regular liaison with Network Rail and South West Trains and met with Rt Hon Patrick McLoughlin of the Department of Transport to discuss how he may assist with unlocking vital investment in the station. The Secretary of State for Transport and South West Trains have been discussing proposals further over the Summer and are due to provide an update on progress by late Autumn 2013.
Jeremy said: “Parking in Haslemere has long been a blight on what would otherwise be a pretty perfect place to live. Network Rail has a solid plan for a new multi storey car park and if the right funding can be secured then hopefully we could move many of the commuter cars back in to the station and end the nightmare on a number of residential streets. We had a positive dialogue to date with all concerned and I know the Transport Secretary is keen to see if a way forward can be found.”
